Explore Meteor Crater

Meteor Crater, also known as Barringer Crater, is one of Earth’s best-preserved meteor impact sites, located in northern Arizona. Spanning about 1,200 meters in diameter and 170 meters deep, it was formed 50,000 years ago by a nickel-iron meteorite moving at 12.8 km/s. The impact released energy equivalent to millions of tons of TNT, creating this massive crater. The crater’s rim rises 45 meters above the surrounding plain, showcasing layers of uplifted rock and soil, revealing Earth’s geologica
