The Roots of Orisha in Trinidad and Tobago stem from the South Western African indigenous rituals of the Yoruba-speaking tribes of Nigeria and Benin. These rituals were brought to the Caribbean by enslaved people in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Today, the Orisha community has made many strides towards achieving mainstream recognition and freedom to practice.
