The Houston Astros have been inundated with injuries this season, especially to their underwhelming offense. But Houston may get reinforcements back with Yordan Alvarez's return.

Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports that Alvarez will begin a minor-league rehab assignment on Tuesday with Double-A Corpus Christi. He’ll serve as a designated hitter in his first rehab game back, and the club plans to have him down for “a few games” before he can be activated off the injured list.

General manager Dana Brown suggested Sunday that Alvarez (hand) could be activated from the 60-day injured list at some point during the upcoming weekend, though the 28-year-old is more likely to return when Houston begins a 10-game homestand Aug. 26, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

The Astros have led the American League West for about 2 1/2 months, which is rather remarkable when you consider the key players who’ve missed big chunks of time with injuries -- slugger Yordan Alvarez and All-Stars Jeremy Peña and Isaac Paredes on offense,
