Spike Lee isn’t just one of the most beloved directors of all time, he's also a true fan of cinema. The filmmaker has been emphatic in his praise of his mentors as well as the great work new artists are doing within the medium.
The crime-heist film first premiered at SXSW 2023 and took more than two years to reach theaters, despite being well-received by critics. For searchers tracking Sydney Sweeney at the box office, those figures set a low bar compared to other new and holdover releases.
“ESPN, Colin Kaepernick and Spike Lee have collectively decided to no longer proceed with this project as a result of certain creative differences,” the statement said. “Despite not reaching finality, we appreciate all the hard work and collaboration that went into this film.”
