Just over a year since two committees first convened to seek answers about the closure of the westbound Washington Bridge, lawmakers once again gathered to question the head of the R.I. Department of Transportation.

The House Committee on Oversight is scheduled to jointly convene with the Senate Committee on Rules, Government Ethics and Oversight on Thursday afternoon.

Rhode Island Department of Transportation Director Peter Alviti will answer questions regarding the Washington Bridge at an oversight hearing.

It’s unclear who shot a video of a construction excavator knocking down a large portion of the westbound Washington Bridge last Friday, sending debris slamming down onto two barges and into the Seekonk River.

Demolition of the closed, westbound Washington Bridge will continue next week, according to the R.I. Department of Transportation.
