Vermont State Police have identified the trooper who fatally shot a man in Putney on Monday. Officials identified the trooper as Peter Romeo. Romeo has been a member of VSP since 2022 and has been a uniformed trooper at the Westminster Barracks since January 2023.

Police have identified the man who died in an officer-involved shooting in Putney, and the trooper who shot him.

State troopers then obtained an arrest warrant for a man living at the apartments, and under circumstances that remain "under active investigation," a trooper fired his service weapon. The main was pronounced dead at the scene.
