Dare County officials have issued a mandatory evacuation of Zone A of Hatteras Island due to the potential for life-threatening impacts from Hurricane Erin, with coastal flooding and ocean

Hurricane Erin could bring gusty winds and flooding tides which could wash out portions of the highway that connect North Carolina Outer Banks by midweek.

The center of Hurricane Erin is expected to remain offshore, but forecasters expect eastern North Carolina to see coastal flooding, tropical-storm-force winds, overwash and beach erosion.

Tropical storm conditions and coastal flooding are expected to appear in areas along the Outer Banks starting late Wednesday.

A new housing survey is open for Dare County residents, with hopes that this one will receive more responses from the workforce who lives and works in the Outer Banks.
