World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said he was releasing an additional $2 million to support Uganda's response to its Ebola outbreak, which has killed one person and infected at least eight others.

Health authorities in Uganda say Ebola cases in the country have risen to nine while 265 other people are being monitored under quarantine.

The number of confirmed Ebola cases in Uganda has risen to nine from three, the country's health ministry said. The East African country declared an outbreak of the severe, often-fatal viral infection late last month.

Uganda has begun a clinical trial of a vaccine against the Sudan strain of Ebola following an outbreak that has killed one nurse in the east African country.

Nine people were confirmed to have Ebola virus in Uganda and around 265 others are being monitored under quarantine, health authorities have said. The nine include the first victim, a male nurse who died the day before the outbreak was declared on January 30.
