FANNIN COUNTY, Ga. — People across north Georgia and metro Atlanta enjoyed a snow day on Friday, but it’s not always just fun and games. Channel 2′s Bryan Mims was in Fannin County in the north Georgia mountains where snow and ice caused an accident on a slick highway that sent a woman to the hospital.

The winter storm system that has been moving across a large portion of the United States finally made its way to North Georgia on Friday morning. Here are the preliminary snow totals.

ATLANTA — Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is currently under a ground stop, meaning planes cannot fly in our out of the airport. According to flight tracker Flight Aware, more than 1,000 flights at the Atlanta airport have been canceled on Friday. Another 500 flights have been delayed.

Thousands of flights have been canceled, including more than 400 out of Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson airport – the nation’s busiest airport – where a ground delay has been issued.

Four passengers were injured after a Delta Air Lines plane bound for Minneapolis aborted takeoff on Friday morning, according to a statement by officials at the Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
