BiVacor announced today that it received FDA breakthrough device designation for its Total Artificial Heart (TAH) system.

The Jarvik-7 artificial heart, made of aluminum and plastic, was implanted in 1982 in a retired Des Moines, Wash., dentist, Barney Clark. He lived for 112 days.
