Americans medicine cabinets are filled with prescription drugs that are often made in or contain ingredients from China or India. Pharmaceutical experts warn patients will likely eventually see higher prices and possibly some shortages if President Donald Trump follows through on his vow to assess tariffs on prescription drug imports.

President Trump announced that his administration would soon implement a “major tariff on pharmaceuticals” imported into the U.S. He also predicted that, in response, drug manufacturers would relocate their production facilities to the United States to avoid the import duties.

The Trump administration is proceeding with probes into the national security implications of pharmaceutical imports.
