Pierre Poilievre reclaimed his place in Parliament after a decisive by-election win in Alberta, securing 80% of the vote. The Conservative leader is set to confront Prime Minister Mark Carney over US tariffs when the House reconvenes on September 15.

Now that Pierre Poilievre has won a byelection to return to the House of Commons, will he maintain his libertarian-flavoured populism of the last few years? Or will he pivot to broaden his base?

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre easily won Monday’s Battle River-Crowfoot byelection but now faces a much tougher task — gaining ground in the polls against Prime Minister Mark Carney.

Damien Kurek, who gave up his seat in the Alberta riding of Battle River-Crowfoot so that party leader Pierre Poilievre could run in a byelection, says he intends to be back on the ballot during the next general election.

Pierre Poilievre will return to the House of Commons after a resounding victory in the Aug. 18 Battle River—Crowfoot by-election. Of the 85,736 registered voters, 50,434 cast ballots. Poilievre received 40,548 votes — or 80.4 per cent.

No one should be even mildly surprised by the federal Opposition leader’s easy by-election win in Battle River-Crowfoot.
