Once upon a time, there was a cat. His name was Tom ... But as with so many comic duos from the mid-20th century, Tom & Jerry knew that their whole was greater than the sum of their parts.

Top Cat and Scooby Doo followed. In the 1970s the pair returned to Tom and Jerry. By then, many of the early episodes were considered "too violent" under fresh guidelines issued to networks.
