Florida is once again tops in the world for the number of unprovoked shark bites, even as the overall number of attacks declined in 2024. An annual report by the International Shark Attack File (ISAF) shows 47 confirmed unprovoked shark bites globally, significantly lower than the average 64 annually over the previous five years.

While shark attacks dropped around the world and in the U.S. in 2024, the U.S. again had the highest reported number of unprovoked bites. There were a total of 28 reported incidents in the U.S., with half of them happening off Florida,

Worldwide, there were only 47 unprovoked attacks, down 22 from the previous year and well below the 10-year average of 70.
