Bay Area surfer Jens Heller, 42, was paddling in the Saturday afternoon waters off California’s Montara State Beach on May 31, when he found himself tossed from his board, thrown into the drink, and face to face with a massive shark.

A surfer was not injured after a shark bit into his surfboard during an attack off a beach in San Mateo County over the weekend.

Fire Captain Paul Brown confirmed to USA TODAY the adult male was a tourist and, according to investigators, the swimmer suffered a leg injury, possibly from a shark bite.
