Gov. Wes Moore and the Maryland Transportation Authority plan to unveil the new concept for the design of the Francis Scott Key Bridge at Tradepoint Atlantic on Tuesday.

Maryland officials have unveiled their designs for replacing Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge almost a year after it collapsed under the weight of a cargo ship that lost power and veered off course.

State officials unveiled the design for the new Francis Scott Key Bridge on Monday, almost a year after a container ship slammed into the old bridge, sending it tumbling into the Patapsco River and killing six workers in the process.

In August 2024, the MDTA approved a $73 million contract with Kiewit Infrastructure Company for the design and construction of a new bridge. Pre-construction began in January 2025, and the rebuild is expected to be completed by fall 2028. Kiewit Infrastructure estimated that the project will cost about $2 billion.

"This moment is a really big deal," Governor Wes Moore said as he unveiled the design for the new Francis Scott Key Bridge on Tuesday at Tradepoint Atlantic. “But it’s not lost on me and I know it’s not lost on anybody here that today’s triumph was born out of tragedy.
