A week ago today, May 3, jockey Junior Alvarado led Sovereignty to victory in the 151st running of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. Just a few days later, trainer Bill Mott revealed Sovereignty wouldn't be running the 150th Preakness Stakes, ending any hope of a Triple Crown winner this year.

There will be no Triple Crown winner in horse racing this year. Sovereignty, the three-year-old thoroughbred who won the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, will not race in the Preakness Stakes – the second leg of the three races that make up the Triple Crown.

Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty won't run in the Preakness Stakes. That means there won't be a Triple Crown winner for a seventh consecutive year.
