The New York City mayor's race candidates honed in on fighting crime and prostitution after the mass shooting took quality of life issues front and center.

Around four shooters opened fire at a New York City restaurant early Sunday, resulting in three deaths and eight injuries. According to police, the violence is gang-related.

Wilky Vladimil Toribio Perez was shot in the left shoulder on Pine St. near Etna St. in Cypress Hills around 2:25 a.m. Aug. 10, police said.

Speaking with reporters at a canvass launch event in Prospect Park, Brooklyn, NYC Democratic mayoral candidate, Zohran Mamdani, called the shooting "another example of the scourge of gun violence" in New York City.
