With Shota Imanaga out for a bit with a hamstring injury, Justin Steele out for the remainder of the campaign, and more injuries likely on the way if history repeats itself, the Cubs need to show interest in Sandy Alcantara.

The Marlins right-hander received 12 votes, more than double the second-place finisher (Chicago White Sox centerfielder Luis Robert Jr. with five). The Marlins typically don't like to spend a ton of money, and Alcántara is the only player on their roster currently with a 2025 salary over $4.5 million. He's earning $17.3 million this season.

Although the Marlins didn’t make him available in winter, with Miami in a deep rebuild and the über-talented Alcantara on a reasonable long-term contract — $17M this year and next plus a $21M option for 2027 with $2M buyout — it made sense the 2022 Cy Young winner, workhorse and terrific clubhouse guy would go.
