SAN FRANCISCO -- The son of two-time major champion John Daly was among 32 players who won their matches Wednesday in the first round of match play at the U.S. Amateur, where five of the top 10 amateurs in the world also advanced at The Olympic Club.

Daly, a day after shooting 67 to get into match play, topped Claycomb 1 up to advance to the Round of 32 on Thursday morning. The match was tight throughout, with Daly winning the par-3 11th with a birdie. It was the only hole either player won on the day.

Razorback senior John Daly II won a pair of matches – 2&1 versus Nate Smith in the round of 32 and 3&2 versus Daniel Bennett in the round of 16 – to advance to the quarterfinals at the 2025 USGA U.S. Amateur Championship, played at the Olympic Club – Lake Course.
